Congratulations to Dawn Marie Lemonds, SIA’s New President-elect
Our election to fill the 2016-2017 president-elect vacancy is complete. We congratulate President-elect Dawn Marie Lemonds on taking up this leadership position. Dawn Marie began her new position immediately, and will become SIA president on September 1, 2017. To complete our leadership team in 2017-2018, we are currently conducting a mail ballot for the 2017-2018 president-elect. Ballots were sent from headquarters on March 24. Ballot information is available in all six SIA languages here.  Please make sure your club votes for SIA’s next president-elect.

#beBOLDforchange
Leading up to International Women’s Day on March 8, SI/Santa Clarita Valley, CA (Camino Real Region), made a BOLD challenge to SIA in honor of the 2017 theme, #beBOLDforchange. If SIA raised $10,000 by March 8, SI/Santa Clarita Valley promised to match every penny. You answered the call with a tremendous response, flooding our mailbox and making online contributions by the dozens.

Our final total, including the generous match was an outstanding $20,785. Thank you to SI/Santa Clarita Valley (pictured below), every donor and every Soroptimist who helped spread the word. We are GRATEFUL. Thank you so much for being BOLD!

Make Dreams Come True—Monthly!
If SI/Santa Clarita Valley’s extraordinary generosity inspires you to go above and beyond for our common cause of helping disadvantaged women and girls achieve their dreams, consider becoming a monthly giver. A gift of any amount made monthly has wonderful benefits. Being a monthly giver reduces processing costs, and enables SIA to anticipate what resources we will have to change lives. Plus, you’ll receive the satisfaction of knowing every month that you have made a difference!

You can sign up online, or at your region conference. If you sign up for at least $50 a month at your region conference, you may receive a limited edition Soroptimist pendant—be sure to ask your region fundraising chair about this special opportunity.

Girls Can Be Brilliant
For some of us, it’s hard to imagine that in 2017 gender stereotypes still exist, but the sad truth is—they do. In fact, a study published this past January in Science found girls as young as 6 years old already believe they aren’t as smart as boys. We can change that perception through our Dream It Be It program, which helps girls grow up to be strong, successful, and happy by connecting them with professional role models, career education and the resources they want and need to thrive. Read the latest LiveYourDream.org blog about the experiences of Ashleen Knutsen, who studied mechanical engineering and is pledging to help girls believe they can be brilliant.
