Please promote the Live Your Dream art contest! Clubs can find materials in the public awareness section of SIA’s website, or direct participants to the art contest section of Soroptimist.org. The submission deadline is December 31. Voting will take place on the Soroptimist Facebook page in February. Winners will receive prizes featuring their winning artwork.
SI Welcomes New President
Soroptimist International recently welcomed Yvonne Simpson, of Hokitika, New Zealand, as International President for the 2015-2017 biennium. Read more about Yvonne and her SI responsibilities.
We also welcome Past SIA President Sharon Fisher to her new role as Soroptimist International Assistant Director of Advocacy. In this role, Sharon will lead the December 10th President’s Appeal and support SI advocacy and the new Soroptimist International Director of Advocacy Pat Black.
New SIA Staff
Meet SIA’s two newest staff members. Yvonne D’Amelio joins SIA as chief operating and financial officer. In this role, Yvonne will oversee the financial activities, risk and facilities management of the federation. Learn more about Yvonne! Sandeep Bathala joins the development department as the grants management specialist. She will build SIA’s first grants program and secure new funding sources for SIA programs and LiveYourDream.org. Dream It, Be It
The Dream It, Be It Club Evaluation Guide is now available for clubs to measure the program goal and objectives. Evaluating Dream It, Be It, will enable SIA and clubs to speak more specifically about the impact of our work to improve the lives of girls in local the communities and around the world.
Soroptimist Club Grants
Does your club have a great project in need of financial support? Read the new Tips for Applying for a Soroptimist Club Grant, developed to guide clubs through the application process. Grant applications are due to SIA headquarters by March 1.
SI December 10th Appeal: Educate to Lead Nepal
For the 2015-2017 December 10th Appeal, the SI president, Yvonne Simpson, would like to harness the collective power and generosity of all four federations of Soroptimist International, in support of women and girls in Nepal. They need help and support as they take steps to rebuild their lives, following the devastating earthquakes of April 25 and May 12, 2015. The focus will be on education and leadership.
Commission on the Status of Women
The 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York, March 14-24. Every year, Soroptimist sends a delegation of leaders and members interested in advocating for the Soroptimist position, learning more about the United Nations and networking with other women’s organizations. The delegation is made up of Soroptimists from around the world and is a unique experience to learn, network and advocate. The NGO Committee on the Status of Women in New York is calling designers around the world to submit ideas for the cover of their handbook. The winner of the contest will have their design featured on the handbook, which will be distributed to participants of the conference. Click here to learn more.
