Soroptimist finalThank you to the nearly 1,000 members who registered to join us for convention in Vancouver! Pre-registration is closed, but you can still register on-site at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Visit our Facebook Convention page to connect with other attendees, ask questions and get the scoop on things to do during your stay in Vancouver. If you are unable to attend, we will be reporting live from the convention on Facebook and Twitter (#SIAVancouver). A full recap will be available on the SIA website after convention.

Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women

  • Thank you to all the clubs that participated in the Live Your Dream Awards (formerly the Women’s Opportunity Awards) in the 2013-2014 club year. The women whose lives are changed through this award thank you too.LYDlogo_large2
  • Check out the updated resources featuring the new name and look. These resources will help improve the program for both clubs and recipients.
  • The new Live Your Dream Award at-large process launched on July 1. Applications will be automatically forwarded to your club Live Your Dream Award chair. If a chair has not been selected, applications will go to the club president. Click here for instructions on how to designate a club chair. Please check your email regularly and communicate with the women who have applied.

Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls
For the 2014-2015 grant cycle, 43 clubs received $217,000 in grant funding. SIA had additional funding for education and leadership programs through generous donations to this year’s SI December 10th Appeal. Sixteen clubs received grants supported by the Appeal. This opportunity will continue for the 2015-2016 grant year. Proposals are due March 12, 2015.

SI annual meeting
SI will hold its annual meeting August 8–10 in Maidenstone, Kent County, England. SIA President Cheri Fleming, President-elect Poco Davis and Immediate Past President Raquel Arreola Ruiz will attend as SIA’s voting delegates to the SI board. Advisors will include Incoming President–elect Sam Buchenau, Executive Director Liz Lucas; SIA Programme Representative Sharon Fisher will also be in attendance, as requested by SI President Ann Garvie.

Expo 2015: Living the Future
Clubs in Milan, Italy, are organizing a special program for Soroptimists all over the world to visit Expo 2015, the universal exposition dedicated to  “Feeding the planet, energy for life” that will be held in Milano from May through September 2015. The program the Milan clubs are preparing, “Living the future—Soroptimist for Expo” will take place in Milan on 8-11 June 8-11, 2015.
