Best for Women
Check out the new online home of Best for Women! This issue features Cheri Fleming’s first president’s message, bios on SIA’s board and region governors, information on shaping our Soroptimist future, outstanding club projects, a message from Executive Director Liz Lucas, our Women’s Opportunity Award recipients, and more! Shortly, each member will also receive a printed version of Best for Women. The revised publication will be printed in all SIA languages and mailed twice a year. We hope you like the new format and that all members will enjoy receiving this valuable resource in her own language.
The 2013-2014 Club Award form is now available in an electronic format in all languages on the SIA website. Clubs must complete the form online, as SIA will not accept hard copies via mail, email or fax. To complete the form, log in using the club login and password (for informational purposes, there is a version of the form available for download). The links for the English version are in the membership resources section under Membership Forms. The non-English forms are linked in the Translated Resources section. The submission deadline is June 1.

In addition to shopping for holiday gifts, this is the time of year we often reflect on what we’re thankful for and what makes us happy. This act of gratitude puts things into perspective. It helps us realize what we have and what we deem most important. Check out our Live Your Dream Gratitude Board for the inspiration to help you feel joyful, loved, stress-free and most important, to help you live the best life possible. A little gratitude goes a long way. So pin your favorite quotes and share them with your friends!

Disaster Grant Updates
Thank you to all the generous clubs, members and regions that donated to support SIA’s disaster relief efforts. Our Disaster Relief program intentionally focuses on rebuilding the lives of women and girls after other disaster relief organizations have completed the emergency response. With your help, SIA issued five Soroptimist Disaster Grants for Women and Girls totaling $59,250 to SI/Tagum, SI/Makati and the Philippines Region to help women and girls recover from a typhoon that struck the Philippines in December 2012, and an earthquake that struck the country in October 2013.SIA issued a $10,000 grant to MADRE, an international women’s rights organization, to help women and girls affected by Hurricane Sandy rebuild their lives. And the federation is currently working with the Philippines Region and affected clubs to support local rebuilding efforts following Typhoon Yolanda in November 2013. SIA reports on the impact of disaster grants annually. For more information, click here.
Exciting Changes in Membership Criteria!
As SIA works to decrease the barriers to our members and clubs, we are pleased and excited to announce changes to our membership parameters!
The SIA Procedures now say clubs should maintain 12 or more regular, retired/unemployed, and/or embarking members (this is also the number needed to charter a new club) and no club shall forfeit its charter due to having 11 or fewer of those member types. Also, the number of members in a club is no longer included in the definition of a club to be in good standing.
We have heard your feedback and instituted these changes to increase participation of members and clubs who wish to engage in our mission and to build a healthy future for our organization. To read more about the procedure changes, click here.
